Train Locomotive : रेल संरक्षा को और अधिक सशक्त बनाने की दिशा में मध्य रेल ने एक और उपलब्धि हासिल की है। कल्याण इलेक्ट्रिक लोको शेड में 50वें लोकोमोटिव (WAP-7/37335) पर ‘कवच’ प्रणाली का फिटमेंट किया गया। इस लोकोमोटिव को मध्य रेल्वे के महाप्रबंधक धर्म वीर मीना ने हरी झंडी दिखाकर रवाना किया। इस अवसर पर मुंबई मंडल के मंडल रेल प्रबंधक हिरेश मीणा, प्रधान मुख्य विद्युत इंजीनियर अनुप कुमार अग्रवाल, प्रधान मुख्य सिग्नल व दूरसंचार इंजीनियर एम. एस. उप्पल तथा मध्य रेल्वे के अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारी उपस्थित थे। पहले चरण में मध्य रेल की 730 लोकोमोटिव्स पर लगाया जा रहा है ‘कवच।
‘कवच’ एक स्वदेशी रूप से विकसित स्वचालित ट्रेन सुरक्षा (ATP) प्रणाली है, जो रेल संरक्षा को और अधिक मज़बूत बनाने के लिए बनाई गई है। यह प्रणाली सिग्नल पासिंग एट डेंजर (SPAD), ओवरस्पीडिंग और टक्करों को रोकने में सहायक है। यह स्टेशन उपकरण और लोकोमोटिव पर लगे ऑन-बोर्ड यूनिट्स के बीच रेडियो लिंक द्वारा वास्तविक समय में सिग्नलिंग सूचना और लोकोमोटिव की स्थिति का आदान-प्रदान करती है। यह प्रणाली प्राप्त डेटा को प्रोसेस करके मूवमेंट अथॉरिटी लिमिट्स और गति प्रतिबंध लागू करती है, जिससे ट्रेन संचालन और अधिक सुरक्षित व कुशल हो जाता है।
भारतीय रेल संरक्षा और स्वचालन को बढ़ावा देने के लिए ‘कवच’ प्रणाली को मिशन मोड में लागू कर रही है। रेलवे बोर्ड ने पहले चरण में मध्य रेल की 730 लोकोमोटिव्स पर ‘कवच’ लगाने की स्वीकृति दी है। इसके लिए चार निर्माताओं को कार्य सौंपा गया है – HBL (170), Kernex (278), Quadrant (276) और GG Tronics (6)। मध्य रेल के विभिन्न लोको शेड्स में यह फिटमेंट कार्य तेज़ी से प्रगति पर है, ताकि शीघ्र ही सभी लोकोमोटिव्स इस उन्नत सुरक्षा प्रणाली से सुसज्जित हो सकें।
50वें लोकोमोटिव पर ‘कवच’ प्रणाली का फिटमेंट, मध्य रेल के सुरक्षित, विश्वसनीय और कुशल रेल संचालन हेतु अत्याधुनिक तकनीक अपनाने के निरंतर प्रयासों में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है।

*730 Locomotives on Central Railway is being fitted with KAVACH in the first phase.। Central Railway achieved another milestone in enhancing rail safety with the fitment of the KAVACH system on its 50th locomotive (WAP-7/37335) at Electric Loco Shed, Kalyan. The locomotive was flagged off by Shri Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager, Central Railway, in the presence of Shri Hiresh Meena, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, Shri Anoop Kumar Agarwal, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, and Shri M.S. Uppal, Principal Chief Signal & Telecommunication Engineer and other Senior Officials of Central Railway.
KAVACH is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system designed to enhance railway safety by preventing Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), overspeeding, and collisions. It works through real-time exchange of signalling information and locomotive location between station equipment and on-board units via radio link. The system processes this data to enforce Movement Authority limits and speed restrictions, ensuring safer and more efficient train operations.
Indian Railways is implementing KAVACH in Mission Mode as part of its commitment to enhanced safety and automation. The Railway Board has sanctioned provision of KAVACH in 730 locomotives of Central Railway in the first phase, with allocations to four manufacturers: HBL (170), Kernex (278), Quadrant (276), and GG Tronics (6). Fitment work is progressing across Central Railway’s loco sheds, ensuring that all locomotives will eventually be equipped with this advanced safety system.
The commissioning of the 50th locomotive with KAVACH marks a significant step in Central Railway’s continuous efforts to adopt cutting-edge technology for safe, reliable, and efficient train operations.
